SOLD A memento mori painting on board in wax encaustic, 2023, sixe 30.3 x 23.4 cm
This painting was created using the fascinating medium of water soluble wax paint, an ancient medium rediscovered in the 1970s by Pedro Cuní the mural painter, and the long lost formula of the ancient Romans for their wall paintings and the mummy paintings of Fayum. Hence the subject matter I chose was the imagery we find on the walls and floors of Roman and Pompeiian banqueting halls - the skeleton cheerfully inviting you to live well, as we only pass this way once. The medium offers brilliant colours and a satin finish and I find it especially personally satisfying to use - wax being my speciality for sculpture.
Framing Advice
The painting is signed and ready for your choice of frame. We suggest there is an airspace between the picture and the frame as encaustic paint should not touch the glass: so a thick mount card or frame spacers are suitable, we are happy to advise in more detail. We suggest you don't order a frame until the painting is with you so you can ensure the frame you choose is suitable.
Bis Vivit Qui Bene Vivit! = He lives twice, who lives well!
